Service Areas and Mapping

A service area (more often referred to as a (SADA) consists of a geographic location and routing information.

As the Dig Safely New York call center processes stakeout requests, the geography of the proposed excavation is compared to the geography of each service area in the system. If your facility location has any overlap with that excavation, your service area is considered to be an Affected Facility Operator. The excavator will be notified of possible facilities in the area, and you will receive a copy of the stakeout request.

If a service area is affected by a stakeout request, the SADA will route the request to destinations based on various previously defined rules and filters.
